- Wash gently with pH-balanced sensitive-skin cleanser and warm, not hot water.
- Use your hands, not a washcloth to wash your face. Scrubbing with a washcloth can make inflammation worse.
- Wash your face no more than twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
- If oiliness temps you to wash more often, wipe oily patches with a plain tissue throughout the day.
- Use water-based or oil-free lotions and gels containing alpha hydroxy acids ( AHAs ).
- Apply a sunscreen or moisturizer with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 every day.
- Avoid or minimize alcohol, hot spicy food, nuts, chocolate, shellfish and greasy food.
- When a breakouts occurs, don’t pick, pop, or squeeze. Squeezing your acne can press the accumulated debris more firmly into the clogged pore and increase the chance of inflammation. Picking at your acne can lead to permanent scarring.
My son has acne on his face and back. His face is 90% better, but his back is bad. His back has large and small pimples. They are very sore if you touch them and bleed. We have been to skin Drs for years and have tried many pills and treatments. My son is 22 now and I feel so bad for him! We have invested alot of money over the years for everything we done, What do you think?
Hi, Deb. Thanks for your question. It would be a great idea if you have an online consultation with Dr. Li, to ask about your son’s acne. Here is a link to the consultation form:

There is no charge for this service. If you are able to attach some photos to the form, this will help Dr. Li to determine the best treatment for him. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
