What is Melasma?
Melasma is a benign skin disorder characterized by irregular patches of pigmentation on sun-exposed areas of the face. It is a chronic condition that primarily affects healthy women in the reproductive years. It is believed that a combination of sun exposure, hormones and genetic susceptibility lead to the development of the characteristic blotchy skin associated with melasma.
Genetic factors: It is believed that genetic influences make some individuals more susceptible to UV exposure and hormonal influences.
Hormones: Melasma can be influenced by normal, or abnormal, levels of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Internal influences include abnormal hormone levels and pregnancy. External influences include fertility drugs, oral contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy. Foods rich in phytoestrogens, such as soybeans, soy milk and soybean oil, can also influence melasma development.
UV exposure: UV exposure is the single most important risk factor for melasma development. Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun stimulates the melanocytes. In fact, just a small amount of sun exposure can cause melasma to return after fading.
How do we treat it?
According to Chinese medical theory, the face depends on nourishment by Qi and Blood coming from the internal organs to maintain its color and bloom. Any disturbance in the function of the internal organs may result in facial skin discoloration. Emotional disturbances, improper diet and lack of sleep over a long period of time can injure the organs and impair the functional activities of Qi.

Take 5 tablets at a time, twice daily after meals.
